A stock is a type of security that represents ownership in a company. When you invest in a company by purchasing its shares, you become a shareholder. This gives you the right to participate in shareholder meetings, vote on company matters, receive dividends, and, in the event of the company's liquidation, claim a portion of any remaining assets. It also entitles you to other rights as defined by law. A bond is a type of security that represents a loan made by an investor to a borrower (typically a corporation or government). It specifies a fixed amount of money, interest rate, and maturity date, confirming that the borrower must repay the borrowed funds along with interest under agreed terms.
The primary market refers to the market where a securities issuer offers investment-backed financial instruments such as bonds or stocks to the public for the first time. It is the initial sale of new securities directly from the issuer to investors. The secondary market is where previously issued securities are bought and sold among investors.
